Justin Roemmick

Justin Roemmick is a progressive voice for Aberdeen and Bath. He isn't afraid to take on special interests in Pierre and work hard for hard working people. Justin believes in working together in a bipartisan manner to get stuff done for South Dakota.
Justin is a fourth generation South Dakotan born and raised. He graduated from Groton High School where he met his high school sweetheart, and now wife Marisa. He attended Northern State University for a period and currently works at 3M Aberdeen. Justin is a former union member, serving at one point as a Union Steward in the IAM&AW, LL 862 representing Hub City, Inc employees. He is proud to support his wife's twelve years of service in the National Guard.
In 2018 Justin ran on a platform that heavily favored working people and families. He fought hard to make their needs part of the conversation, in this he succeeded. Though he came up short after the votes were counted, he has stayed engaged. Justin will again focus on the needs of working people and families. He looks forward to having more conversations with members of the community.
The Issues:
Justin supports fully funding education. This includes increasing teacher pay to a regionally competitive rate, better funding needs based scholarships, making tech school tuition free, and making preschool programs universally assessable across the state.
Justin will work with any willing person in the legislature to figure out solutions on how to make healthcare more affordable. He also wants to figure out solutions about how to cover the thousands of South Dakotans left behind when we chose not to expand Medicaid under the ACA.
Justin believes that the sales tax on food is immoral and supports repealing it on whole grocery items. South Dakota currently has the fourth most regressive tax structure in the nation. This will not fix that problem, but it would make life just a little more equitable for the working class.
South Dakota disproportionately incarcerates non-violent criminals for chemical dependency issues. In some of these cases the only crime committed was possession and consumption of Marijuana. Our laws are outdated and need to be overhauled. Justin is a supporter of Amendment A and Initiated Measure 26 for this sole reason. Typically speaking Justin supports keeping the government out of your personal life. He believes that armed with factual information, people will make the best decisions for themselves.
